Don't Forget ...
Your Garb
You'll be playing an original character in the world of C-Tek, and your garb should reflect the life you've lived. It's OK to take inspiration from Blade Runner, Akira, Edgerunners, or The Matrix, but please don't cosplay as an existing character.
Eye protection
For your safety, C-Tek requires that all participants wear something over their eyes. Whether it's your daily eyeglasses, retro shutter-shades, or motorcycle goggles, all participants must have a barrier to protect their eyeballs from wayward darts.
A Smartphone
C-Tek uses an integrated smartphone web-app. It will run on nearly any Android or iPhone from the last 6 years. If you don't have access to any sort of smartphone, please contact us in advance and we may be able to get you a loaner.
Also recommended:
- A back-up battery. Charging stations will be available in the game area, but it's a good idea to have your own backup.
- 2 charging cables.
- An Otterbox or other sturdy drop-resistant case, or a case with a wrist-strap or lanyard attachment. Branching Worlds LLC is not responsible for damage to your personal property.
A NERF Blaster
All stock NERF blasters manufactured by Hasboro and firing NERF ammunition are acceptable to be used in C-Tek. Third-party manufactured blasters and ammunition, as well as modified blasters and ammunition should fire at a maximum velocity of 120fps, and their use in the game will be decided on a case-by-case basis at check-in time. Check the rules document for restrictions based on the character you're planning to play.
Your Medication
Your health is important to us, and essential to making sure you can have a good experience. Please bring any medication you need to stay well and keep healthy
What to leave at home
Drugs
C-Tek does not allow recreational use of drugs or alcohol during our event. Please leave all recreational substances at home. Your welcome to smoke or vape tobacco outside of the venue. If you are intoxicated or seen using recreational drugs, you will be asked to leave the event with no refund.
Weapons
Please do not bring firearms, airsoft weapons, paintball guns, blades, or any non-LARP-safe (padded, foam) blunt weapons into the gaming area. If you brandish a weapon which is not LARP-safe, you will be asked to leave the event with no refund, and refused service from future Branching Worlds events. Soft foam light batons, provided by C-Tek staff to players who have purchased the skill to use them are the only melee weapons approved for use in C-Tek combat.
Fire-crackers, smoke bombs, candles, sparklers, or propane stoves
Our game space is made from plywood and our players’ safety is our chief concern. Anything that generates smoke, spark or flame is prohibited.
Flipper Zero or other real-world hacking tools or software
We recognize that hacking is a part of cyberpunk culture and we have incorporated that into the stories we tell and the app we make available to our players. That being said, use of real-world hacking tools is not within the scope of our game and will be considered cheating.
Can I bring ...
Food and beverage?
Yes, our event will run through dinner time, and our venue may be hot in the summer months, so please keep yourself appropriately fed and hydrated.
Props for roleplay as a medic or a mechanic?
Yes! Please do not bring power tools or anything with a blade or sharp point. Everything else should be OK. If you’re not sure it’s safe, leave it at home. Always get consent before touching another player.
Lights and decorations for my in-game space?
Please do! We’d love to see player-decorated game spaces. All lighting in the game space should be LED or EL wire. No glass bulbs or tubes of any kind. Keep in mind that our venue cannot provide our players with power, so you’ll need to self-power any lights you bring.
Signage for my in-game business?
Yes! This is a capitalist dystopia after all. Bring the biggest, brightest, most obnoxious sign you can! No glass or real neon/flourescent tubes please. All signage must conform to the C-Tek Code of Conduct. Reach out to us if you want some ideas or tips on how to build self-contained self-illuminated signage.
A generator to power my lights?
Please don’t bring anything that burns fuel or generates any kind of fumes, but bring any type of battery you want.
Chairs and tables?
Yes! Our game space unfortunately has very few places to sit. Please bring a folding chair and one for a friend, and if you expect you might want a table, bring that too.
Physical items to sell for game currency?
Absolutely.
Physical items to sell for real currency?
Please don’t. In 2225, the only currencies are Lyghtcoin and human lives.
My Laptop/Tablet/Custom Cyberdeck?
C-Tek is a busy and active space and anything you bring into that space could be damaged or destroyed, so bring electronics at your own risk. But we’d love to see it. Our mobile app is designed for phones, but it should work on any device that can run a modern web browser. Keep in mind that access to Wifi may be limited or non-existent so you’ll need to use your phone’s hot-spot for any devices that require connectivity.
Instruments or Amplified music?
Of course, but we ask you to please keep the volume at a reasonable level so that it does not impact the ability of players in other game spaces to hold conversations, roleplay, hear game announcements, or enjoy their own music. You can be conscientious even if your character is a jerk.
Video games?
Sure. Just remember that this is a live-action roleplaying game which involves interacting with other live human beings in the same physical space. Make sure that you stay in character, and that your game is not detracting from your experience or the experience of those around you.
VR Headset?
VR is an important element of the cyberpunk genre, and we would love it if you choose to bring a short VR experience to share with others at our event. We even welcome you to set up a VR parlor and charge other players game currency for the experience. Because of our active game environment, we ask that any player immersed in VR have another player nearby committed to watching out for their safety both in and out of game, and ready to alert them if something outside of the VR experience requires their attention.
An RC Car, drone or small robot?
Sure! Battery-powered RC vehicles and small robots are welcome. Small propellor-drones are OK, as long as they have propeller-guards. Make an effort to keep moving objects away from peoples faces and feet. Remember that C-tek is a busy and active space and anything you bring could be the target of NERF fire, stepped on or crushed, so anything you bring is at your own risk and please do not bring any very expensive toys.
Heelys, skateboards, scooters, ebikes, or ATVs?
Heelys, non-motorized 2-wheel scooters, wheelchairs and mobility scooters are permitted at C-Tek as long as players using them maintain control of their own movement and use caution around other players. Other powered movement devices, skateboards, bicycles, and roller skates/rollerblades are prohibited.
My customized cyberpunk vehicle?
Gamepod is an indoor space. No player vehicles will be allowed in that space. You’re welcome to show off your vehicle in the unpaved gravel parking lot.
If you are unsure about something, reach out to us! We’re happy to discuss and work with you in order to ensure the safety and comfort of our players, NPCs, and staff.
